Modjeska Historic House & Garden
The Helena Modjeska Historic House and Gardens is the century old home of Helena Modjeska. It was the home of the world-renowned Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska from 1888 until 1906. It is located in a live oak grove of Modjeska Canyon. Modjeska Canyon is the gateway to several hiking trails through Cleveland National Forest.
The continuing care and sensitivity to the historic buildings and grounds resulted in the ultimate preservation of the site which has been designated as a National Historical Landmark. The Helena Modjeska Historic House and Gardens is one of only two National Historic Landmarks in Orange County. Docent led walking tours of the historic house and gardens are currently offered by advance reservation only.
Many native oaks still remain on site. Original plantings from the Modjeska era, such as palms and English yews as well as a grove of Redwoods planted in the 1930's still remain on the property to this day.
Evergreen Arborists Consultants, Inc., was proud to provide tree protection services during the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over the Santiago creek.
